We all have the same needs. Everyone needs to feel seen, heard, known and validated. Everyone needs attention and compassion. We use communication to help meet our needs and to connect with others.
Communication is nuanced. Think about how you communicate in different contexts. For example, consider the differences in communication for small talk, a friendly conversation, a get-to-know-you conversation, negotiating conflict, asking for something, a professional conversation, a difficult conversation, or an intimate conversation.
Ultimately, these examples all have different goals. However, in each one:
• We hope to have a mutually positive experience.
• We are trying to share information and our experiences.
• We want to accurately understand the other person’s information/experiences.
• We may be trying to build a larger or deeper relationship.
• We may be working toward some long term, desired outcome.
• We hope to make a connection.
Fundamentals of Effective Communication is a tailored course. We will work to improve your communication in the situations and relationships that are most important to you.
In my class, we look at the anatomy of communication. You can learn to raise your skill level for the different parts of healthy communication.
For all the foundational skills, I will explain and demonstrate. Then we can practice together before you try these skills in your real-life relationships.
Depending on how we use our time, we may also cover:
• How to start a conversation.
• How to end a conversation with an open door.
• What can I do to keep the flow of communication open and comfortable for both speakers?
• How to have a difficult conversation.
• How can I avoid communication killers?
• How can I set healthy boundaries and hold them?

Is it difficult for you to make your wishes known or to ask for things?
Is it difficult for you to feel like you are participating equally in discussions or joint decision making?
Access your personal power by learning to use assertive speech and actions in a variety of situations.
My course will address all the following things:
• What does assertiveness look like? How is that different from being aggressive or passive?
• What do people who are assertive know, that I may not know?
• What are common barriers to assertive communication? How can I overcome those barriers?
• How do I handle anxiety? What if I feel embarrassed? What if I feel guilty or awkward when I speak up?
• How do I deal with difficult people? How can I have difficult conversations more effectively? How do I handle put downs? How do I handle disrespect?
• How can I create and hold healthy boundaries with others?
• How can assertiveness improve my relationships?
My course also includes the following:
• Self-reflection and self-awareness help identify the specific things that are concerns and barriers for you.
• How you deliver your message can be as important as the words you use to say it. You will learn assertive behaviors.
• We will practice what to do and how to communicate assertively and in a way that feels genuine and comfortable.
• I give homework. You practice with me, then you can take what was gained in class into your real life.
Assertiveness can help you build healthy relationships and resolve conflict. Use your new, more assertive interactions to hold healthy boundaries, and create more honesty, more equity, and more connection.

ADHD looks different in children, teens and adults. There are differences in how it presents across genders. Also, ADHD symptoms can vary tremendously from person to person. For all these reasons, it can be difficult to get a clear understanding of what ADHD is and how it affects you and the people in your life. More importantly, you may want a better understanding of what to do about your ADHD symptoms. What are your options?
Whether you are here to work with your own, adult ADHD, or here as a parent to help your child with ADHD, this interactive workshop will address your specific interests and questions. We can discuss the things that would help you the most.
Bring me your questions. For example:
• What causes ADHD?
• What does ADHD look like in the brain?
• How is ADHD diagnosed?
• What if I have trauma in my history? How can I tease apart the trauma from ADHD?
• How can I stop ADHD from taking a toll on my romantic relationship?
• What is the role of medication?
• What are my options if I don’t want to take medication or put my child on medication?
Depending on how we use our time, other possible things you can learn in our workshop:
• Understand how ADHD affects your child developmentally, across their childhood.
• Learn how you or your child/teen can manage their symptoms to have less forgetting, avoiding, procrastination, inability to manage time, or more ability to listen and follow through.
• Learn what to do about emotional outbursts.
• Learn how to handle lying.
• Learn how to minimize restlessness or impulsivity.
• Learn how you can keep ADHD from having a negative impact on your relationships.
• Learn how to overcome procrastination.
If you feel empowered by what you learn in the workshop and want to continue working with me after, you have the option to enter counseling for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for ADHD, if you live in Texas.
If you live in New York, after this workshop, we can continue meeting for skills training and coaching.
